How long will a power station run a CPAP?
Updated October 15, 2026
Short answer: a 300Wh station gives you about 4 to 8 hours on a CPAP that draws 30 to 60W, so a full night only at the low end. A 1kWh station gives you several nights.
The range is wide because CPAP draw depends on your pressure setting and, above all, the heated humidifier. Without the humidifier, many machines sit around 30 to 60W. Turn it on and the draw can climb a lot, so if you can sleep without it, you’ll stretch your battery much further.

Hours are rounded down and use 85% of the rated capacity to allow for inverter losses.
Run it from DC if you can
Many CPAP makers sell a 12V DC power cord. Plugging into the station’s car port or a DC output skips the inverter, which wastes less power than running the mains brick from an AC outlet. So the hours below are a fair floor if you go DC.
How we’d size it
For one night camping, a 300Wh station is the lightest sensible choice. For a weekend, or a power cut where you don’t know when the grid will be back, we’d look at the 500Wh to 1kWh range so you’re not counting hours at 3 a.m.
Your CPAP’s manual or power supply label gives the maximum draw. Your machine’s own data, if it shows usage, is a better guide to the average.
Common questions
- Can I use the heated humidifier on battery?
- You can, but it can easily double the draw or more. If you’re on battery for more than a night, we’d turn it off or turn it down.
- How do I work it out for my machine?
- Take the station’s watt-hours, multiply by 0.85, then divide by your CPAP’s average watts. Then divide by the hours you sleep to get nights.
